As we head (nearly a week now!) into the new year, just catching up on the final bits of the last with two plays and two exhibitions

A Handbag?
Curtain holder for Importance of Being Earnest
Way back at the Heather and I headed into the West End and the Noel Coward Theatre to see a star studded line up in The Importance of Being Earnest. The production was notable for returning the play to its original four act form (apparently Wilde edited it to three for the first performance), which, to be honest, didn’t seem to add a great deal. It was also notable for Stephen Fry playing Lady Bracknell—and almost whispering the infamous handbag line. All very good.
Importance of Being Earnest
The first of the exhibitions came a week later with a trip to the British Library for Secret Maps, and exhibition demonstrating how maps can secretly lie even when out in the open, though, again being honest, there did seem to much emphasis on social secrecy as opposed to just plain old once top secret stuff!

Fool Map Of The World

Escape Map Underwear
Once Gemma was down between , we three headed to London and the Natural History Museum for the annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. There were some very good photographs, though as usual none of our favourites won, and I got annoyed that some exhibited shots didn’t contain, you know, wildlife.

Heather at The Mousetrap
Finally, leaving Gem to her own devices, the Heather and I headed for a matinee performance of the running forever The Mousetrap at St Martin’s Theatre. It’s a good many years since I’d seen it, though I could remember the reveal (sshhh), and Heather never had, which was fun.
And that was just about it for 2025!
