There Is The Atom

Single Atom in an Ion Trap

Back when I used to play with an STM I used to get quite excited when sixth formers came around, showing them individual atoms appearing in a scan (probably of a Si 7×7 reconstruction). This is probably as close as that to really seeing an atom. Cool stuff.

Just put some foil over the top of a bowl and for some reason was suddenly transported back to covering a port on a UHV chamber. Haven’t done that in a while.
