Entertainment

A bit of a catch up on some recent entertainment!

First was a trip to the sunny churchyard of Southwark Cathedral to watch
familiar faces The Handlebards do some very silly things with Much Ado About Nothing. They were very good, and funny. The venue, outside in the churchyard, was very noisy.

Next up at the were the always excellent Waterboys (despite their slightly strange album which forms a biography of Dennis Hopper, the highlights of which they ran through), who as per what seems to be tradition were at The Roundhouse.

From music to theatre , and a visit to The Globe, where Heather and I were joined by Emma to enjoy a production not of Shakespeare but an interesting version of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible

It was back to music a though for the first of three quite different gigs. There is nothing quite like Pulp, and we felt we most certainly deserved some more. Luckily we got it at the O2 Arena with a double set (with interval!) of new and old.

There was a bit of a change of style a when we found ourselves at the still awful venue of London Stadium (though they’d slightly improved the walk back to the tube), with very side on seats to watch the rock gods who are Iron Maiden, complete with a stage striding Eddie.

Another change of style took us to Finsbury Park (which seemed to have improved slightly on last time) to see the sing-a-long great Stereophonics. They were ably supported by the laid back Finn Forster, and another chance to see Blossoms.

Finally it was back to Southwark Cathedral, this time to see The Pantaloons in a very funny version of Sense and Sensibility (which we’d actually seen sometime pre-covid). The venue is still too noisy but they were very funny.
